What if there aren’t sufficient funds in my bank account to cover AutoPay?

If your bank account designated to make a payment through AutoPay does not have sufficient funds to cover a pre-authorized payment, we (the Bank of Nova Scotia) will attempt to withdraw the pre-authorized payment until the transaction is successfully completed or until the next pre-authorized payment date if your designated bank account is at The Bank of Nova Scotia. However, if your designated bank account is at another Canadian financial institution, we (The Bank of Nova Scotia) will attempt to withdraw the pre-authorized payment only once and for the required amount. To avoid paying a fee for insufficient funds, please ensure there are enough funds in your bank account to cover the amount of any pre-authorized payments to your Scotiabank credit card or line of credit account.

If you selected to pay your full balance and the funds are insufficient to cover payment of the balance in full but are enough to cover the minimum payment, we (The Bank of Nova Scotia) will withdraw the minimum payment amount only if the bank account is at The Bank of Nova Scotia.

However, if the bank account is at another Canadian financial institution and there are insufficient funds to cover the balance in full, we will not collect any amount, even if there are enough funds to cover the minimum payment.
